UNIFORM INTERSTATE FAMILY SUPPORT ACT (2001)

PURPOSE:
UIFSA limits child and family support orders to a single state, eliminating interstate jurisdictional disputes. Amendments were added in 2001 to clarify many of the provisions of the Act, increasing its usefulness.

ORIGIN:
Completed by the Uniform Law Commissioners in 2001. The 1996 UIFSA has been adopted in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
