UNIFORM ADOPTION ACT (1994)

PURPOSE:
To establish procedures for all phases of the adoption process, including consent to a direct placement of a child by a birth parent to an adoptive parent or relinquishment of a child to an agency for adoption, pre-placement evaluation of adoptive parents, the legal and physical transfer of a child, termination of parental rights, and preservation of confidentiality as well as access to records. The act governs both private placement and agency adoption.
